Positive Experiences

Overwhelmingly positive patient reviews

Many comments discussing friendly, kind and positive staff. I called and talked to LasikPlus and they emphasised that the price includes Lifetime Acuity (free touch ups for life) and that LasikPlus has been around a long time and has treated patients from 20 years ago. They also mentioned that Dr. Omar Awad has performed about 60,000 procedures. Pricing does NOT include the cost of medication, which is established at the pre-exam consultation.

Just had my procedure done a few days ago. All the staff there were welcoming and informative. Prices were absolutely fair(considering how life altering it was). Procedure was fast and painless. I cannot express in words how much I would recommend both the procedure and this specific clinic to anyone interested! Thanks for changing my life and helping me cross off a huge bucket list item!

I had an amazing experience at LasikPlus! The entire team was so friendly, upbeat, and welcoming from the moment I walked in. They made me feel completely comfortable, answered all of my questions, and made sure everything was thoroughly covered. I really appreciated how they explained each step as they were doing it—it helped calm my nerves and made the process smooth and stress-free. I highly recommend LasikPlus to anyone considering LASIK!

I am so happy that I did this! Shoutout to the team at LasikPlus in Maplegrove for being super sweet and kind. From my free consultation through my surgery and even after for my follow-up, everyone was super supportive, kind, and caring. Vision and procedure are great, and overall it's just such a great experience. I definitely recommend it if it’s within your budget to get LASIK! They do have financing options for those who can’t pay in full. Never did I feel like I was not cared for throughout this whole process. Thank you LasikPlus Maplegrove Team!

The staff at LasikPlus Maple Grove was absolutely amazing! They were very knowledgeable and helped answer all my questions prior to treatment and during treatment they helped calm my nerves by being super attentive and supportive. While there was some slight discomfort during the treatment itself, it was honestly one of the fastest things ever. Afterwards, the pain was tough for 1-2 hours but, I quickly forgot about all that once I woke and could see!! It really hit me how amazing life will be on the first night after treatment when I went to bed and didn’t have to take my contacts out!!! I am so happy with my results and could not recommend LasikPlus Maple Grove more!

Incidents

Reviews imply incidents were acknowledged via a standard LasikPlus process

Reviews complained about fees and having to jump through multiple hoops to fix surgeries which failed

Could not find any reviews discussing 3rd party referrals or support for additional surgery

This location does seem to acknowedge failures, which is good. However, there are several reviews indicating they make patients jump through multiple hoops to have a corrective surgery performed: (a) require a different eye doctor to review the problem; (b) charge a $99 fee to review the problem themselves, and (c) the review process wouldn't complete for 8-10 weeks. That is a LOT of hoops to jump through and fees to pay if indeed it was their fault. Regarding referrals to other facilities, there is no mention of this one way or the other.

TreatScore Methodology

TreatScore tries to objectively rate providers using publicly available data. TreatCost's commentary should not affect TreatScore.

Positive Experience Weight: 85%

In a study finished in 2011, 95% of patients were satisfied their LASIK eye surgery. We want to reflect this in our scoring.

New technology like Contoura / Wavefront, ICL, and other types of vision correction surgery may result in even higher positive outcome rates. Given this and the large number of online reviews of LASIK available, we feel star ratings and comments from consumer review sites like Google Maps are the best representation of LASIK quality when surgery is successful. For centers which only perform LASIK and related surgeries, we use every rating in the score. For locations which perform more types of ophthalmic surgery and other types of vision appointments, we consider both their overall rating (50%) and the rating for patients who mention LASIK, PRK, or a related surgery in their review (50%).

Incident Management Weight: 15%

Although only a small fraction of patients have negative outcomes from LASIK, the disproportionate effects from a failed surgery mean we give them a disproportionately higher weight.

Our goal is to convey how well (or poorly) your case would be handled if your surgery failed. To that end, our Incident ratings are calculated from 3 equally weighed elements:

  1. Incident acknowledgement: Whether the provider acknowledges incidents
  2. Second surgery offer: Whether the provider tries to fix failed surgeries for patients at no cost to the patient
  3. 3rd party offer: Whether the provider refers patients to a 3rd party for a surgical or other fix at no cost to the patient

Why do we use these criteria?

  1. Incident acknowledgement: To receive remediative care patients must know such care is available. If a provider acknowledges an incident early, that can help patients
  2. Second surgery offer: We have reviewed hundreds of LASIK reviews, and in many cases providers offer to fix failed surgeries with a subsequent surgery. Because many providers offer this service, we assume it is effective and we include it in our Incident Management review. If the provider refers all patients to a 3rd party at no cost to the patient then they get a perfect score
  3. 3rd party offer: In reviewing dozens of patient incident stories, we found many patients refused to allow their original surgeon to operate on them again for fear of a second failure. For these patients, we know they often seek a 3rd party service to help them, and in TreatCost's opinion the original provider should pay for that service

These criteria are not comprehensive. TreatScore includes multiple data sources, but we do not always include every piece of information in our score. TreatScore is intended to be a starting point to help patients understand the experiences of other patients, so all calculations are based on patient reviews and patient incident reports. If you are a provider and want to improve your score, we recommend asking patients who experience an incident to post their experience online and then send TreatCost.com a link to this content via our Feedback Form.
